I have a question about pronouncing word

I'm a native speaker and here in the U.S I have noticed English speakers pronounce the suffix [tion] as "[schin]". Example, in India the word 'Function' is pronounced exactly how it looks: (Func-tion) but I hear English speakers pronounce it as (Func-schin), or another word is 'Suggestion', in India we say (Sug-jest-shon) in America I hear (Sug-jest-schin). Which way is the correct way to pronounce the 'tion'? If I continue to pronounce it the way I have known to pronounce it hear in America will people know what I am saying or correct me on my pronunciation of it?
