I've heard that standard german is in text widely written in german speaking part of Switzerland and all people have their own dialects... But what happens if you go to Bern or Basel with your Zurich dialect and literally everyone doesn't understand you... Do they just switch to standard german//high german in the way they speak to each other?
So for me as a foreigner not from Germany or Switzerland, is it best to learn standard german//high german and from there on learn Zurich dialect if my intention is to live in german speaking part of Switzerland but mostly live in Zurich?
