I heard that a person must be hearing a phoneme before the age of 2 in order to be able to hear that sound as an adult. What sets of currently spoken languages would give the listener the ability to hear the sounds of most / every language?
Lists which concentrate on languages with more native speakers would be better (although I'd also be interested in what would be the fewest languages that would cover the most phonemes too), as my next reddit question will be for advice on the talk radio stations in those languages.
