Is Mandarin content interesting enough to learn for it’s own sake?

I think I want to try learning Mandarin Chinese, but I was wondering if the payoff would be worth it in the end. I’d only be interested in watching Chinese TV and movies, listening to Chinese podcasts, and reading Chinese news websites. I won’t ever live or work in China, so I don’t have that to motivate me. My success will basically live or die on my interest in their content. To those who have achieved fluency, what do you think?
