What I dislike about grammar books

Just a rant.

So yesterday I was browsing my library's collection of grammar books for German and I noticed (and hated) one thing in every single book. All the content was grouped by parts of speech: everything about verb, noun, preposition, pronoun and so on.

This kind of lexicon might be useful for repetition, but it is absurd for learning itself. One certainly doesn't need to know everything about verbs just to learn basics about nouns' cases! That would be so dull.

I couldn't find any grammar-focused book where the content was grouped by difficulty, like in a textbook. The learner has to jump from topic to topic through chapters, using I guess intuition to find the right order.
