So I want to learn Korean or Japanese but those languages have a high barrier to entry and take longer to understand things so ive been working a little bit on french trying methods that I find fun to try to see how I want to learn a language.
A method I came across was using this extension/website called language reactor other websites or applications probably have the same feature idk. anyways it gives you subtitles of any youtube videos or movies or shows that you watch and it allows you to have ur target language subtitles and native language subtitles at the same time.
So with the fact that everyone is so obsessed with comprehensible input I thought that you can make any input comprehensible by having both of these subtitles up where you can read the meaning of the sentence in English then listen to the video and follow along to see the breaks in words with in this case french (TL).
And ive noticed its been helping a ton because I feel like some words and prhases that repeat Im understanding more and I can actually understand what theyre saying not only because I read it in english first but because I connected it to the meaning of the french word and can basically see every word they said hover over what it means and repeat it if necessary.
With native only subtitles you only understand whats going on but your not actually understanding what they are saying in their own language so u dont acquire any language but with both language subtitles it feels like I can make anything comprehensible input and actually learn new words.
This seems like such a good method am i missing something or is this just a lot more common than i think.
