Frustrated with learning a language with no intermediate level media. Should I learn its larger, mother language first?
I'm learning Haitian Creole (TL) but I've been struggling to fluently understand everyday spoken Creole. I've tried hunting down YouTube channels to watch but native level content is still too quick for me. I can get the gist of the conversations but I'm rarely hearing whole sentences. My vocabulary on paper is quite good. I'm just struggling to parse all the contractions and elisions. There is basically no intermediate level creole content and almost no media at all with subtitles or transcripts.
I'm getting desparate enough that I'm seriously considering learning to understand real conversation level French. I can already understand B1 level audio in French. My hope is that if I can jump from B1 to C1 in French comprehension that my Creole comprehension will jump too. Do you think it will work? What would be the best sorts of resources to rapidly improve comprehension skills? Any other thoughts?
