Basically: ive been delusional about my language level in my TL.
For the first time in a while i tried writing in my TL (a language ive studied (lazily on and off) for over a decade, passed B1 in like 2019 and have studied pretty intensively the past year (on average 2-3h a day)), and after getting it corrected by AI I realized my grammar was so bad id barely pass an A2 exam. I got so demotivated, as I genuinely thought Id reached B2 (i can speak about topics like politics ect pretty freely and at a fast pace, and have no problem consuming native media).
I think whats happened is that ive become a bit too emboldened by my perceived level. I was being understood when speaking and I understood others, so i thought i no longer had to think about grammar rules, and instead could just vibe out the right grammar endings and forms. alas i am not above grammar, and writing really exposed all the faults i had forgotten that I had. I need to drill the correct grammar into my brain, so i'm going back to the tedious task of grammar exercises and spending a lot of time thinking of grammar while communicating, but i shall not give up!
If anyone has advice for how to automate correct grammar it would be greatly appreciated (for context, the grammar of my TL (russian) is very different from my native languages (norwegian/english)). CI is clearly not enough for me, and when i'm speaking i hide behind speaking fast, saying several possible endings (like repeating the same word with different endings) and forget corrections i get.
Learn from my mistakes: dont neglect grammar rules too quickly, and make sure youre testing out your different language skills to catch any big faults (written, oral, listening, comprehension ect)
