Foreign language bookstores - Kinokuniya 🇯🇵 vs Thalia 🇩🇪

I live in the USA and I’ve been studying both Japanese and German. Kinokuniya is where I go when I want to buy books or manga in Japanese. I visited Germany for the first time a couple days ago and spent over an hour at Thalia. I’m curious why Thalia hasn’t spread overseas like Kinokuniya? Although I’m grateful for Kinokuniya I do think it would be nice if we had some German dedicated bookstores in the USA…
