I do not get the opportunity to text with people in my TL (French) much, so I've been trying to use ChatGPT to practice my writing, and as I talk to it I get the added benefit of practicing my reading as well, even though I mostly practice reading via native books and articles. I like it because I can talk about whatever subject I want, and I will always get it to provide corrections and explanations of its corrections for what I had written to it, which is very helpful as I am still intermediate and make a lot of mistakes.
However, I am having some issues with the default model. Often after a few messages it will forget what I had told it to do previously, such as to offer explanations of its corrections, or to write a clarification in more basic French next to any complex, idiomatic, or uncommon expressions/phrases it uses.
I see that there are options for a variety of other models (03, 4.5, etc.), but as someone with very little technical knowledge, I have no idea which one would be best for this type of task. Has anyone else experimented with the other models and had more luck with the non-default one? Any advice is appreciated.
