馃嚭馃嚥 Learning 协nglish. How Should I Approach Clause Mining?

I’ve been learning English for almost four years now, and I feel like I’ve gotten pretty good at mining things like collocations, adverbial phrases, prepositional phrases, and so on.

But I always hit a wall when it comes to conjunctions, or I guess I should say 'clauses'. For instance, take the sentence: “I doubt whether it’ll work.” It’s a common one, and from what I understand, “whether” is a subordinating conjunction tied to the main clause “I doubt.”

But then, can’t I just say “I doubt if it’ll work”? It sounds pretty natural to me.

One might sound more natural than the other depending on the context, but it’s still tricky to mine those subtle differences. This isn’t the only example by the way

Do you guys have any tips or strategies for mining clauses effectively? I feel like sometimes when I speak, I end up sounding unnatural when I use certain clauses. I’d love to hear how others approach this

Thanks!
