Honestly, I’m surprised no one brings this up when comparing Babbel and Busuu. I’ve been using both for months (and months), and here’s what I’ve noticed 👇 📱 Interface: Babbel is light-years ahead When it comes to design, smoothness, and user experience, Babbel clearly wins. Busuu feels kind of outdated in comparison. 📚 But in terms of learning methodology… it’s another story ➡️ Babbel is too dense. You can’t just “farm” lessons because there’s not enough repetition. ➡️ Often, you get 2–4 lessons on a topic, and then you never see it again 😶 ➡️ New vocab and grammar are introduced in entirely new contexts, which makes it so much harder to absorb. 🌱 Busuu is more gradual and smarter ✅ Even when switching topics, Busuu still reuses previously learned vocab and structures. ✅ New concepts are introduced in familiar contexts, which massively helps memorization. 🟢 Very similar to how Duolingo handles it, and that works really well. ✍️ About Babbel’s “Write” review tool: pretty disappointing 🔸 Reviews are not grouped by topic, making it hard to reinforce grammar patterns. 🔸 Sometimes you have to type multiple words into a single cell… without any clear hint (see screenshots I posted). 🔸 There’s a lack of variety in how words are used across contexts, so they don’t really stick. 🔸 And worst of all: no contextual grammar reminders, which makes some exercises unnecessarily hard if you don’t already “get it.” ❓Does anyone else feel the same? I just don’t get it. With all the tech we have and the massive demand for language learning, why are Babbel and Busuu the only two offering semi-structured courses? Where are the serious alternatives? 😤 [link] [comments] |
