Thoughts: having english version whilst reading TL book?

Context: I'm at A2 French right now and I'm wanting to read a good book over xmas and thought I'd try one in french. I've read a few A2 graded readers and they've been largely OK to go through, but I really want something with Audio to go in hand to improve my listening at the same time. I thought about reading either Harry Potter (first book) or The Hunger Games (first book) as they're books i've read multiple times before.

I have a kindle, so I'm thinking about purchasing the french verison on there and using my existing english version at home as a "final" step if I can't understand the text at all (in order to save me typing the sentence into google, or double checking ive understood something. Plan would be: read in french, translate and check with english copy if necessary, then listen audio book again to make sure I know and do it as such a pace so the story is still interesting.

Is it worth it or will I not be learning anything. Has anyone done anything similar?

As an aside, which of the two books would you start out with? I know hunger games better but I think HP may be a bit easier
