I lived in Germany for two years and felt very fluent. I basically lived most of my life in German: my roommates were German, my university was in German, etc. Then I left for 7 years. Now on my return I'm totally shocked at how much I've forgotten. Like, I knew I'd have lost a lot, but this much? I feel like I'm back to the level I was before I arrived in Germany all those years ago. Has anyone else had this experience with forgetting a language? How quickly does it come back?
