Why does Duolingo always want you to do more?

Duo is always incentivising me to do more, like “hey it’s happy hour, extra XP!” “Hey your friend Bob did 10 lessons today!” “Watch out, you’re going to be relegated from the gold league!”

I’ve burnt out of Duo in the past because I’ve done too much or got caught up in the league thing and it’s just not sustainable. Plus, it makes you feel like you’re failing if Duo pops up telling you to study constantly and you can’t.

I just do one lesson a day now. That’s enough for me. And I still pay for premium so Duo get their money. But apparently that’s not enough?
