Does living in a country whose language you don't speak, expedite the language learning process?

I'm permanently relocating to Athens, Greece in the fall, and I've been attempting to learn the language since early March through a private tutor and self studies.

How does living in the country affect the longevity , intensity of the process towards fluency?
