How can I stop looking at a word from my target language as a translation for my native language and actually look at it as its meaning?

I already explained the gist of my question, so I'm just going to say that I want to get used to this because I heard that it would be time-consuming if I were to translate a native person's words into my native language, formulate a response, translate it back to the target language, and say it correctly so the native person doesn't get confused. So what are some methods to solve my problem?
