Dilemma about language learning

This might sound like one of those 'Which language should I learn?' posts, but unless I've overlooked something obvious, please hang in there.

I'm at a loss. I don't know how to commit to a language and stick to it, because I can't find a concrete purpose for doing so beyond the enjoyment of the language learning process, like "getting fluent in this language so that I can watch movies in this language". I can't do that, cause there doesn't seem to be an immediate necessity for me to acquire another language.

I don't watch much TV. I do play a couple games, but these are primarily English translated into other languages, which is different from, say, reading manga as the source language is Japanese and there would be an actual benefit to reading the source manga instead of the translated thing, and thus learning Japanese. I used to watch anime and manga on that note, but not so much nowadays.

My parents are from India and speak another language, but due to personal reasons I am so far removed from their culture that I don't associate myself with it, in spite of being of Indian descent. This means that I don't feel the need to learn my mothertongue, since I don't - and probably will continue to not - talk to my family that much, and I don't consume any of the media that my parents do.

The thing that has really driven me to want to learn another language to fluency, asides from enjoyment, is that I want to translate English media into that language and vice versa. That's basically it. I have tried to consume the media of my target language, like watching Korean movies for Korean or Israeli series for Hebrew, but it has either felt like a chore (like the latter), or I've gotten way too into the media and forgotten to get something out of it that would benefit the language-learning process. I've tried to change my iPhone language to my target, but I've had to change it back cause I've just relied on the icons instead, not really learning anything in the end.

I guess my question is this - how do I go about learning a language when I've only got a generic goal of 'learning it to a point where I can accurately translate stuff to English and back'?

EDIT: Something I ought to bring up is that I vastly prefer written media to spoken ones, and learning to write and read over learning to speak and listen, and I want to be able to translate written media specifically.
