People who use their iPhone as a language learning tool: thoughts on the stock Translate App? Pros, cons, loves, hates, etc?
FYI - Before the iPhone vs. Droid DMs start flooding my inbox, I only mentioned iPhone/iOS because the language app in question is for iPhone only.
Hi,
I use my iPhone religiously as a language learning tool - not just by changing the native language settings of the phone to my target language, but also by using every and all apps available that help this hobby of mine.
Which leads me to my question: the "translate app" that (now at least) comes auto-installed on the iPhone. (I think my old 11Pro did NOT have it preinstalled...but on a later update it popped up - maybe I'm wrong though. That said, my 12m definitely had it preinstalled)...what do you think?
To me it feels cumbersome, counter-intuitive (un-Apple!), bulky, and...well...just not that good? Then again, maybe I'm missing something?
Is this an app that's powered by another company (like the the stock Weather app using TWC´s data to power the iOS app)? Or is this "all Apple"?
FWIW, I rely on Google Translate, ReversoContext, and Word Reference as my go-to translate apps.
So yeah - what does everyone think about the preinstalled/stock Translate app? Pros/cons/love/hate?
Thanks!
Tangentially related: any and all "tricks" for using an iPhone as a language learning tool: much appreciated :)
