I'm not a native English speaker, and I live in a country where I don't get to use my English that often. I have a boyfriend whose native language is English, and sometimes I just feel stupid and kinda embarrassed of my grammatical mistakes, since he has to correct me pretty often (pronunciation and stuff like that). I speak in an American accent (I don't have a cute rare accent), so making grammatical mistakes feels extra embarrassing, since I'm trying to be very smooth and sound like a native. When I visited the states, many Americans thought I was from there, so my accent is on point, but the mistakes ruin the whole picture.
I used to be really good in English, and it seems like my language skills have gotten worse over the years. I really try to pursue my English skills any chance I get, but I don't know what to do. I've started to feel embarrassed to use the language; I've started to avoid calls and I've started to prefer texting since it gives me that extra time to think what to say and how to put the words.
I'm still constantly checking words in the dictionary if I'm not sure how to write it or if it's the correct word for the situation, and I feel like I'm constantly translating my thoughts into English. It's not smooth, like it used to be. How to get into the flow? How to get more fluent? I'm watching Netflix without subtitles, talking with my boyfriend and I'm using Reddit almost every day, and I can't really think of any other ways how to hear and use more English.
