Why you should apply for the Pearson English Global Teacher Award 2020

Around the world, there are many talented and dedicated English teachers who deserve recognition. That’s why we run the Pearson English Global Teacher Award every year. We want to celebrate your achievements, recognize the positive impact you have on your students, and ultimately shine a spotlight on the great work that you do.

In January 2020, we’ll select five winners from five different regions across the world who will win an all-expenses-paid trip to the IATEFL or TESOL conferences. To be in for a chance of winning, you simply need to share your own personal English story by January 10, 2020.

You’ll need to tell us about something you’ve done that’s made a difference to your students’ lives or explain an experience you’ve shared with other teachers that has made an impact.

Do you think you have a story to tell? We’d love to hear from you and be inspired by your journey.

Apply now!

Why should you apply?

Still not sure if it’s for you? We asked applicants from the last three years why they had entered the Teacher Award competition. Here’s what they had to say:

We hope this has inspired you! Here are five more reasons why we think you should get involved today.

1. Because you want to challenge yourself

Winning the Pearson English Global Teacher Award a great personal achievement, but so is applying for the competition itself. That’s right, just applying for the award is a great way to reflect on your teaching year and think about your work from another perspective.

It might sound tough! We’re asking you to break out of your comfort zone and do something different from your normal teaching routine. You will have to think hard about your successes and failures. How have you helped your students? Have you inspired those around you? What have you done to go above and beyond?

Talking about your own successes is not easy and talking about them on camera to a panel of judges is even harder, but the sense of achievement you will feel will be worth it.

2. Because you are proud of your work as a teacher

You have dedicated your time and energy to improving people’s lives and now the spotlight is on you. Some people feel shy talking about their achievements, but you shouldn’t – you deserve to be recognized!

Maybe you helped develop a program in your school that helped students find jobs where unemployment was high. Maybe your students have difficult home lives and you strive to bring joy into the classroom. Or maybe you inspired a group of students to start their own English club.

There’s no right or wrong answer, we want to highlight your ideas, creativity, challenges and achievements. Whatever it is you’ve done this year, be proud of it and let us share in it too.

3. Because you want to attend professional development conferences and meet new people

4. Because it’s important to value teachers’ work

Teachers are extremely involved in their students’ happiness and development. You are constantly thinking about their wellbeing in the class, their growth and evaluation of their achievements.

It is also a highly emotional job, one in which you are deeply invested in. This is why it is important to celebrate and draw light on the amazing work educators do.

5. Because improvement and development is vital for teachers

Educators are constantly learning, evolving and developing their ideas. But sometimes you need inspiration, ideas and new contacts in order to grow professionally.

Applying for the Teacher Award will help you examine your own practices and evaluate the needs of your students. It is the perfect opportunity to reflect on your own methodology and push yourself to be a better teacher. And you never know what doors will open in your future career.
