I'm interested in learning French to be able to read and maybe one day translate academic literature in that language. I'm not really interested in learning it for practical conversations or watching French TV or anything.
How should I approach learning it with this in mind? Should I just do the normal route of taking classes, using beginner textbooks, etc or is there some other way to learn that you guys recommend?
Apologies if this is a stupid question, I don't know much about language learning and was curious to know if there's some way of learning that skips the parts I'm not interested in.
