Is this a good learning strategy?

Right now, I am using Duolingo to begin learning Russian (as a native English speaker). I'm level 12 in Russian right now (been at it 66 straight days). Once I finish the Russian lesson tree up to level 5 in each category I'll likely do the "reverse tree", i.e. "learning" English via Russian. I understand Duolingo isn't ideal for learning grammar. But I've been told that collecting vocabulary is more important in the early stages of learning.

I've also picked up Short Stories in Russian by Olly Richards & Alex Rawlings, as well as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Гарри Поттер и Философский Камень) in Russian since I already know that story well. As I pick up a bit more vocabulary in Duolingo, I'll begin reading these each day. I think this — combined with finishing the Russian tree in Duolingo from and to my native language — will help me retain the Russian I've learned.

Steve Kaufmann emphasizes listening in his learning. So I've already mapped out a few shows to watch in Russian (Фарца; Лучше, чем люди; and Метод). This is ideal for me as I studied filmmaking (Kaufmann recommends listening to material that interests you).

So I have a couple questions since many, many people here have more experience with language learning:

1) Is this a good strategy to eventually speak, read, and understand Russian fluently?

2) If this is a good starting point, is there anything else I should add?

3) Any material recommendations for those of you who have learned Russian from English?

Thanks a ton!
