Scared of making a mistake

Heyy Reddit,

My girlfriend is Italian and we've been dating for 3 years now and I've been trying this entire time to learn Italian so I can talk to her and her family. I have used the usual channels like Duolingo and I can understand the general idea of a conversation however I always come unstuck when I try to speak it. I seem to become terrified of making a mistake (its stupid I know) and making myself look like an idiot in front of her family (Also stupid because her family are ridiculously lovely people). Does anybody have any advice on how to overcome this?
