Parler français à Melbourne

Bonjour à tout le monde.

Sorry if formatting is weird, I am typing this on my phone.

So just recently, I went to an amazing crêperie in Melbourne, Australia called 'La Petite Crêperie'.

I walk up to the lady who was making the crepes and she greeted me with a 'Bonjour' and I guessed she was a native french speaker. Here in Melbourne, or Australia in general, there are very few native French speakers you can come across on the street so I was overzealous.

I gave her a little disclaimer that I am a beginner in French. She said it was cool and that she'd be more than happy for me to order in French.

I was really nervous at this point, over thinking about my pronunciation and trying to not embarrass myself. The conversation went something like this.

[Me telling her i'm a beginner to French]

'Je voudrais une crêpe au Nutella s'il vous plaît.'

'D'accord, c'est 6 dollars s'il vous plaît'

[I attempted to pay, but my card declined, so I was mortified. In this time I was scrambling to transfer money like an idiot]

'Je suis très désolé, ça devrait marcher maintenant.'

'Voulez-vous un reçu ?'

'Oui, s'il vous plaît'

'Voilà'

'Merci beaucoup '

I also asked her what part of France she was from and what she was studying.

After the exchange, I felt so amazed that I (somewhat) spoke French for the worst time with a stranger and it definitely gave me a confidence boost, especially after she said my French was good and that my pronunciation was amazing.

Sorry if this was a long post, I am on a high right now after this encounter. Can't wait to go back again so I can speak French!

À bientôt !
