Having Portuguese as my native language, after studying studying Spanish and French, I've found out that I suddenly can understand most of what I hear in Italian.
What keeps me from fully understanding the language is the vocabulary which cannot be found in other romance languages, like fiume, schifo and magari.
I wonder if there's a place that displays all "original words'' that are born from the language itself.
That would help a lot in learning languages within the same family.
