Background story: Tagalog is my native language and I can comprehend it just as as well as English. However, my speaking ability in English is far better than it is in Tagalog simply due to a lack of practise as I've been living in an English-speaking country for almost half of my life. English used to be my best subject and I still do good at it, which still surprises me sometimes.
Now, Spanish, that's where this begins. So I'm currently in my second year of high school and I have been taking Spanish since my first year. I received the award for the top student in all Spanish classes at my grade. My pronounciation and my vocabulary is good and I thank Tagalog for that. Both of my Spanish teachers have strongly recommend that I keep teaching Spanish and I had already decided that I was going to before they even approached me. The thing is, I wouldn't be able to hold a conversation with a native Spanish speaker. I only took Spanish this year because it was compulsory for students in an advanced core class so I had no choice. But now I do want to pursue learning Spanish.
I just don't know where to start with teaching myself. I've had about as many hobbies as a person can have, especially at my age (15) and I'm grateful that my parents were supportive of me. I keep doubting myself because in the end I never truly continued to pursue any of those hobbies and I know that's part of life; trying new things. I just want to commit to this. I want to give it a go and get out of this rut.
I know about the different methods of learning; SRS, flashcards, immersing yourself in that language (TV shows, movies, books, media, etc), talking to native speakers (HelloTalk, Italki) and so much more.
From my Spanish teacher, he said something along the lines of "A jack of all trades but a master of none"... I have potential and I don't want to waste it... So where do I start?
