We invite you to participate in a research study on language use.

The study is in two sections and should take about 30 minutes to complete.

In the first section, we ask you to listen to brief audio clips and answer a few questions about each speaker you hear.

In the second section, we ask you to tell us a little about yourself.

To participate, you must be 18 or older and currently living in the United States.

Please complete the survey by September 30, 2019 and please DO make time to complete the survey in one sitting, preferably in a quiet place.

CONFIDENTIALITY: To complete this study you will not have to identify yourself and, therefore, your name will not be associated with your answers nor will it be published anywhere. If you wish, you can enter your email address at the end of the study. Your email address will be saved separately from your responses.

BENEFITS, COMPENSATION, AND INCENTIVE: At the end of the study, participants who wish to can enter a drawing for one of four $50 Visa gift cards.

To participate in the drawing, you must give your email address. If you do not want to participate in the research study, but want to participate in the drawing, click on the button that says "Do not continue but enter the gift card drawing."

Participants will not receive any direct benefit or compensation from participating in the study. However, the results of this study will help us better understand the relationship between speech and meaning and enhance our ability to communicate effectively both between and across cultures.

RISK: The study does not entail any known risk beyond the risks that exist in everyday life.

VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION: Your participation in this study is voluntary. You can freely decide whether or not to participate in this study and you have the freedom to leave the study at any time.
