What does ''Osmotic stimulus'' mean in this context?

I found this article

https://www.thefreelibrary.com/JUST+ONE+CUP+OF+WATER+COULD+KILL+LITTLE+HEIDI%3B+Girl%27s+deadly+allergy...-a061152595

And I was confused by it so I searched for papers on the condition that was named, and I wanted to try and find an explanation for why the girl would die if she drank pure water (people with this condition are diagnosed when they still have an allergic reaction to distilled water) but she was ok drinking milk and tea and she did not go into shock from swallowing her own saliva which is mostly water, or why the water in her body was OK. One of the papers mentioned that it is likely caused by an ''osmotic stimulus''.
