How to distinguish the 2 letters “n” and “ng” at the end of words, in both Korean and Vietnamese?

They all really sound the same for me in the 2 languages. For example: “ban and bang” in Vietnamese, “산 and 상” in Korean

“상” sounds exactly like “산” to my ear, is the “ng” at the end silent? We don’t have to read it?

Or it does really have its own distinct sound?
