Do you ever come across situations when you are unable to comprehend certain sentences spoken or written by the native speakers? Well , the reason is that it’s not possible to figure out grammatical structures in these sentences.

So the way to go about these are by understanding the common speaking patterns of the native speakers .Lets discuss about some of the commonly used speaking patterns by the native speakers.

Common patterns in English are group of words or phrases used by the native speakers frequently in their conversations .I would advise you to go through this video lesson to improve the speaking, listening and writing skills

If you learn these sentence and question patterns well, then you will be able to make so many perfect and natural English sentences and questions.

Following is a list common sentence patterns in English

I can’t wait to – is used to express excitement or eagerness for something to happen

Example sentence - I can’t wait to see you win the winner’s trophy

There’s nothing as …….as…..- It is used to talk about something which is worth giving attention to

Example sentence – There’s nothing as powerful as a changed mind

You’re the one……..- It is also used to talk about something important done by someone

Example sentence – You’re the one who made it possible

I’m afraid that……- It is used to tell about something which might disappoint the listener in a polite way.

Example sentence – I’m afraid that I won’t be able to attend the party.

I must say that……- to introduce an opinion that you have some reason not to say, but you feel like you have to say it anyway. Reasons for using "I must say" can include: When something surprised you because it's different from what you expected to think.

Example sentence – I must say that your performance was par excellence.

You’re one of the……- To highlight someone’s exceptional quality

Example sentence- You’re one of the finest speakers I have ever met.

We might as well…… - indicating that it is probably better to do something than not to do it.

Example sentence – We might as well stay there.

It’s no wonder that….- something which is quite obvious or in other words not at all surprising

Example sentence – You’ve just come back from office. It’s no wonder that you look tired.

It’s about time that…….- usually an annoying expression to emphasize that it is high time that something needs to be done

Example sentence- It’s about time that those responsible, be brought to book.

It’s just as well that………- something which was not expected but came as a pleasant surprise

Example sentence- It’s just as well that we cancelled the trip as it rained heavily there.

I can’t wait to …….- extremely eager to do something

Example sentence –I can’t wait to see him.

You’re not to…..-to acknowledge instructions or regulations

Example sentence…..- You’re not to shout in the corridor.

Would you care for…..- to ask whether someone would like something.

Example sentence …..- Would you care for some coffee?
