Live from IATEFL 2019

We are halfway through the week at IATEFL 2019 and having a blast! It’s been great to meet so many enthusiastic teachers and discuss the current trends and challenges in ELT.

It’s buzzing everywhere you turn, with conversations on a wide range of topics from automated assessment and engaging teens with Live Classes all the way through to the importance of reading and overcoming the advanced plateau.

But it’s nowhere near over and we’re still looking forward to exploring themes such as AI, personalization and the future of employment over the coming days.

If you are at IATEFL 2019 check out our full program here.

What’s to come

As well as talks and workshops we have these exciting things going on during the week.

Headspace

Have you ever wanted to ask a question to some of the world’s leading ELT authors? Well, now’s your chance. The Pearson English speakers and authors are on hand to chat about their area of expertise.

You can find our Headspace booth behind stand 26 and we still have slots available for the following sessions on Thursday 4th April:

  • Ask Steve Oakes about the advanced learning plateau
  • Ask Sara Davila about making a curriculum work for you
  • Ask Rose Clesham about AI in assessment
  • Ask Larry Zwier about English for Academic Purposes

If you’d like to sign up, pop by the stand and speak to one of our staff.

Readers corner and charging booth

Sometimes your phone runs out of battery… and sometimes you do.

Although conferences are a lot of fun, they can also be tiring. If you feel you need a break, come and relax at the Readers’ corner. There are places to charge your phone, you can look through our extensive range of Pearson English Readers, or even listen to a sample of an audiobook.

Win a set of Readers

We are giving one lucky winner the opportunity to win a set of eight popular Readers to use in your classes.

To enter, tell us which one of our Readers you’d most like to read during the Easter break and why. Share your answer on Facebook or Twitter, using the hashtags #IATEFL2019 and #readers and #easter. And don’t forget to tag @PearsonEnglish so we can see your post!

Whoever submits the most original post will win! So, make sure your entry is fun and compelling. For example, you could come to the Readers Corner and take a selfie in front of the wall of art full of quotes from famous stories.

Don’t forget to read the full terms and conditions before entering.

Photo wall

Take a picture using our inspiring frames and upload it to social media to receive a Reader.

All you need to do is:

  • Take a selfie
  • Upload it to Twitter or Facebook
  • Add the hashtag #IATEFL2019 and #PearsonLive
  • Tag @PearsonEnglish

Once you’ve done that drop by the Pearson stand, show your photo uploaded to social media and then choose your reader.

Gallery Walk

For those who are still around on Thursday evening, join the debate at the Pearson English Gallery walk. In room 3a we’ll be discussing the question:

Do we still need classrooms?

During the event (which is open to everyone), you’ll have the chance to speak to experts and meet like-minded professionals while we dive into the future of ELT!

There will be drinks and canapés – so don’t miss out!

And don’t forget we still have six talks over the next couple of days. You can find out more information on our IATEFL program page.

Are you at IATEFL? We’d love to meet you! Come over to stand 26 and say hi.
