If a roman could come to this age, would we be able to speak to them witg the latin teached on schools?

Silly question I know, but yesterday in my latin class I thought about it and asked my teacher, she said she doesn't know for sure because even if we know the pronunciation they had (like for example the "c" letter always being pronounced /k/) we never have heard a real roman speak, so someone knows if a roman would understand our latin?
