Here is a paragraph in a report which I am writing-
The powerful countries which attempt to assert their dominance on weaker countries never considered Seychelles- the East African Island nation- to be important enough for them to even notice its existence. However, the Republic of India saw much merit in building a strong defense partnership with the seemingly insignificant little nation.
I am not sure if I should use a dash, as I have in the above sentence (....considered Seychelles- the East African Island nation- to be.....) or use a comma instead (...considered Seychelles, the East African Island nation, to be....).
Thoughts?
EDIT- Another paragraph has the following sentences where I am facing the same question -
This relationship has flourished to a level that - just like Nepal and Bhutan - even though Seychelles is not a protectorate of India, India will respond to any aggression against the nation as an act of aggression against itself.
