Here’s why you shouldn’t miss it.

Bridging the gap – work skills with a licence to thrill

Nowadays, an increasing number of businesses in different industries require their employees to speak English. More and more people’s job options and career advancement depend on how well they’ve mastered English as a business language.

The problem is that business English training can often feel disconnected from the real lives of learners. Whether they’re in tertiary education or already working at a company, we need to find a solution that unites the two worlds and equips learners with real-world business English skills.

Business Partner provides a bridge between classroom content and the real world of work. Its engaging content is relevant and applicable to the workplace and is suitable for learners with no work experience who are looking to improve their employment prospects as well as existing employees who want to improve their career progression.

The course includes ‘soft’ skills training (such as awareness of directness and indirectness in communication) and functional business skills (for instance, presenting ideas), which all our students will benefit from practising and developing.

This talk, based on materials from Business Partner, hopes to provide solutions for some of the problems that business English teachers, including Margaret herself, face every day. We hear so much about 21st-century skills and employability skills, but what exactly are they? We all know the world of work is changing fast and getting more complex. So can we help to bridge the skills gaps in the business English classroom? How can we provide our learners with relevant and engaging ways to develop these transferable skills?

Margaret’s 30-minute presentation will aim to answer all of these questions.

Who will benefit the most from this workshop?

All business English teachers! Particularly in the tertiary section, and in-company trainers at any stage of their professional development will find this workshop useful.

What will you learn?

You will find out which core transferable skills to focus on in the classroom, and see how you can use dramatised videos from the new Business Partner series to raise awareness of these skills and develop them.
