Does learning two languages at once accelerate your language learning ability

I speak English at an intermediate level, I want to gain fluency. I really love the English literary works and would like to understand it deeply and also write well. I am also interested in learning Chinese and Japanese. I was wondering if I start learning Chinese simultaneously, will it help me in improving my English skills ('cause I believe the brain gets better at learning the more novel things we learn). Please advise. Thank you for your time!!
