Having fun is a must

I've been learning Japanese for a while and my strategy is to learn reading first, then polish everything else. Memorizing lots of glyphs is a tedious process and sometimes, to have some fun, I show my wife a kanji or a word and ask what she sees there. As she has no knowledge of Japanese at all, her responses sometimes are so funny that it takes time for me to calm down from crying and hysterically laughing. Interestingly enough, the more emotional impact is, the better I remember the material.
