Please help me with a French verse.

Im struggling with the first part of a Rimbaud poem:

"Vraiment, c'est bête, ces églises des villages
Où quinze laids marmots encrassant les piliers
Écoutent, grasseyant les divins babillages,
Un noir grotesque dont fermentent les souliers :
Mais le soleil éveille, à travers les feuillages,
Les vieilles couleurs des vitraux irréguliers".

I got something like:

"Truly, its stupid, these village churches

Where fifteen ugly marmots soiling the pillars

Listen, trilling out their divine responses,

To a grotesque black of which the shoes are closed:

But the sun wakes now, through the branches,

The irregular stained-glass’s ancient colours."

But I am doubtful about the line that talks about the shoes, because it is somewhat confusing the relationship that tries to establish between the subjects in that sentence

Can someone tell me if it's correct? or if there is some more accurate translation.
