When do you think should one learn the gender of words?

Question above ^ Do you think one should learn them all from the beginning? Do you think one should learn a few and then learn the gender of words lateron just by consuming media in your target language and immersing yourself or do you think it is important to learn every word with it's gender from the beginning (especially when you are still learning words by themselves, seperated from context). Also, do you think it's different in different languages?

I feel like in German you need to know some words with their gender because otherwise you have trouble understanding what is going on as soon as different cases are introduced, which is rather early on.

I imagine also it might be more important to learn at least the gender for some words when you are not used to a language with articles according to different genders as in English.

( I didn't manage to find a post on this in the search function, I hope my question is clear)

What do you gusy think?
