A great place to do this is at conferences. Not only are they a place to share the latest ideas, concepts and research, but also a chance for people to get together, to discuss, and to have some fun.

1. 53rd International IATEFL Conference
When: 2nd – 5th April 2019 (pre-conference event starts 1st April)
Where: ACC in Liverpool, United Kingdom
What: One of the biggest ELT events of the year, the International IATEFL Conference and Exhibition is taking place at the beginning of April.
Each Spring it attracts approximately 3,000 ELT professionals from over 100 countries, including teachers, teacher trainers, materials writers, academy owners, curriculum developers, and many others.
Running over four days and boasting around 500 talks, workshops and forums, there are plenty of networking and social opportunities and the chance to meet with theorists, industry experts and other key figures in ELT. What’s more, with 50 exhibitors and a Careers Fair, professionals in the field have the chance to find out the latest developments in the profession and an opportunity to grow their careers.
Pearson English will be exhibiting and will have a program of sessions for you to learn about the latest developments in ELT. We will have our authors and industry partners with us for the week taking part in various fringe events.

2. TESOL International Convention
When: 12th-15th March 2019
Where: Omni Hotel at CNN Center, Atlanta Georgia, USA
What: Running over four days in Atlanta, 6,000 educators from all over the world will come to meet over 100 exhibitors and benefit from over 900 sessions at the TESOL US Annual Convention.
The event will offer professional development opportunities, unlimited networking and four engaging keynote speeches.
Pearson English will be exhibiting and hosting a program of sessions delving into the latest ELT trends. Come and visit us on the stand for a chance to meet our authors and ELT consultants.
3. Innovate ELT
When:17th – 18th May 2019
Where: Oxford House, Barcelona, Spain
What: InnovateELT is five years old. To celebrate their half-decade, they want to invite you to stop the clock and take stock of where ELT is going. The conference will look back at the past 5 years of the industry, reflect on what we’ve learnt as a profession and also look ahead at what’s in store for us over the next 5 years.
Whether you’re a teacher, learner, publisher, content designer or EdTech enthusiast, you’ll leave buzzing with new ideas for how you can shape the future of ELT.
4. EAQUALS International Conference
When: 11th – 13th April 2019
Where: Hotel Melia Barajas, Madrid, Spain
What: EAQUALS aims to foster excellence in language education across the world by providing guidance and support to teaching institutions and individuals.
The International EAQUALS Conference is open to all language education professionals – both EAQUALS members and non-members are welcome. The 3-day event offers a rich and stimulating program of professional development for center owners and directors as well as academic staff.
5. EAQUALS Training for Excellence
When: 23rd – 24th November 2018
Where: The Royal Society of Edinburgh and British Study Centres, Edinburgh, Scotland
What: Another cracking event from Equals – their Training for Excellence Conference offers Equals members two days of training focusing on leadership, marketing, young learners, and course design.

6. Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET) Conference
When: 7th – 9th November, 2018
Where: Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, USA
What: ACCET was founded in 1974 for the purpose of improving continuing education and training and has been officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Education since 1978 as a “reliable authority” as to the quality of education and training provided by the institutions we accredit.
With roundtable discussions, plenaries, panels, social events and even a “speed dating for success” event, the ACCET Conference is aimed at educational institutions and schools that value professional development.
7. IATEFL Special Interest Groups – TEASIG, BESIG, YLTSIG
When:
- Testing, Evaluation and Assessment (TEASIG): 1st – 2nd November 2018
- Business English Special Interest Group (BESIG): 16th – 19th November 2018
- Young Learners and Teenagers Special Interest Group (YLTSIG) PCE: 1st April 2019
Where:

What: IATEFL’s Special Interest Groups bring together ELT experts from specific fields. A full list can be found on the IATEFL website, however 3 highlights are:
TEASIG Conference
TEASIG’s Autumn seminar is aimed at opening doors for teachers with practical insights and hand-on workshops which will aim to support and encourage teachers involved or likely to be in assessment and testing. It will offer advice and theoretical analysis to show how technology can really help teachers really benefit from technology in all modes of assessment which in turn can be transmitted to their learners.
BESIG Conference
The BESIG Annual conference’s 2018 theme is ‘Exploring the Frontiers of Business English’. Taking place over three days, delegates will attend talks, workshops and other live business English events. It unites English teachers, teacher trainers, and a range of ELT professionals who want to develop their interest and skills in business English.
YLTSIG Conference
The 2019 Pre Conference Event aims to identify common ground and build bridges to enable teachers of young learners to emulate and integrate best age-appropriate practice from both worlds.
8. Language Testing Research Colloquium (LTRC)
When: 4th – 7th March 2019
Where: Marriott Courtyard in Decatur, Georgia, USA
What: The Language Testing Research Colloquium (LTRC) 2019 is a conference hosted by the International Language Testing Association, and looks to promote the improvement of language testing throughout the world. This year’s conference is based around the theme of Language assessment in times of movement, transition and change.

9. The Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT) Conference
When: 23rd to 26th to Monday November 2018
Where: Shizuoka Convention & Arts Center (Granship) Shizuoka City, Japan
What: JALT promotes excellence in language learning, teaching, and research by providing opportunities for those involved in language education to meet, share, and collaborate.
The JALT 2018 conference is focusing on diversity and inclusion, with the aim to create a more level playing field for students. It promises to provide a platform for new ideas and new voices, and hopes to disrupt the status quo and make things better in ELT.
10. European Association for Language Teaching and Assessment (EALTA)
When: 31st May – 2nd June 2019
Where: University College Dublin, Ireland
What: The European Association for Language Teaching and Assessment (EALTA) promotes the understanding of theoretical principles of language testing and assessment, and the improvement and sharing of testing and assessment practices throughout Europe. The EALTA conference is based around the theme of transitions in language assessment.
The conference organizers are expecting a range of topics to be covered, including: a focus on assessment literacy following changes in assessment approaches, assessment for transition points in education, transitions to technology-based language assessment, the use of corpora and corpus linguistics methods for language testing and assessment, and much more.
