Would learning how to read, but not speak a language make you a faster reader than if you could speak it?
Because when I read stuff in English I have a habit of always speaking it in my head as I read which limits my reading speed to my speaking speed. But if I didn't know how to speak a language but could read it (eliminating the need to speak it in my head), would I theoretically be able to read faster? Keep in mind I'm just curious and am not using this as an excuse to not learn to speak a language.
