Seeking resources on Eastern Algonquian languages

I'm an amateur naturalist looking to gain some new insight into local ecology through language. The Eastern Algonquian languages were developed by peoples with an intimate knowledge of local flora and fauna. As such, my hunch is that there may be great insights that are simply part and parcel to the languages.

Obviously, there is the great tragedy that many of the peoples that spoke these languages were killed, displaced, or forcibly stripped of their cultures. And not surprisingly, many of their languages are now extinct. I'm also not familiar with any resources for undertaking a study of languages in this group.

So my question is, of the Eastern Algonquian languages, which remain the most widely used, and what resources are available for learning them?
