Best approach for one-on-one language learning?

Next week, I will be paid to teach a foreigner Norwegian. I have 3 hours a week for one-on-one teaching. The person is illiterate (Latin) and knows next to nothing about the language. The main goal is to talk.

What's the best approach here?

I was thinking some Pimsleur inspired stuff, where I 1) learn the Arabic for e.g. "how are you?" and then teach the corresponding sentence in Norwegian to the other person with stress on pronounciation, like (three dots means the person repeats):

Say/show Arabic sentence

"Ho... How... How... Ar.... Are... Are... You ...You... How are... How are you... How are you?... How are you?..."

And so forth. Maybe do 10 sentences, where we can get a casual conversation going.

How does that sound? Would you that be time well spend ?
