Hello everyone, so I am currently using Assimil Chinese with Ease, and have just recently reached Lesson 50. I know for some languages (Chinese and Japanese specifically come to mind), underneath the natural translations is a more literal translation. For those working with translating from their target language or L2 to their source language or L1, how much of the literal translation did you allow yourself in this task? In my case, the literal translation generally makes mentally translating the Chinese fairly straightforward, though I imagine the task would be made immeasurably harder without the literal translation.
