Help with Korean vowels (ㅔ) and (ㅐ)?

Can anyone provide clarity regarding the pronunciation difference between the Korean vowels (ㅔ) and (ㅐ)? I am getting really mixed examples from language learning resources online and want to make sure I am not ingraining an improper pronunciation. For example, one resource says both vowels are pronounced like the vowel in the English word “face” — a second resource says (ㅔ) is pronounced like the vowel in the English word “met” and (ㅐ) is pronounced like the vowel in the English word “pan” (presumably American pronunciation).

Anyone have any insight?
