Do words in Russian have other meanings like in English?

e.g. can the word 'roll' in Russian be used both for 'bread roll' and 'I had to roll', for example? Or does each different meaning/spelling get changed via a case or something?

More possible examples:

'In outer space' and 'here's a space'

'I went for a run' and 'How do you run this program?'

Hope that was clear enough!
