Request for sources to back up claim that primary school kids can learn 2+ languages at once (written and oral) without "ruining" native/local language

Greetings from Norway! I have one kid who is in first grade now. Kiddo is bilingual (Norwegian and English, but doesn't read or write English), and I want him to do more advanced English in school. In first grade they just learn some words, days of the week, colors... just basic stuff that he already knows. His dad and I want him to start more heavy-duty conversation plus reading and writing. At the same time, we've had "issues" with his school (his teacher refuses to acknowledge that he is gifted, despite testing that proves it) so we need (recent) research to back up our claim that it's no problem whatsoever for him (or most kids really) to learn how to read/write/speak other languages while doing the same for the native/local language...

Can any of you provide links (that you've already bookmarked and/or know about) or can point me out to names/research institutions? Or the right combination of search words? (Especially those that eliminate all links to private language tutors.)

Cheers...
