Hi all, I'm learning Italian (TL) and have started to spend more time watching original content in Italian. My question is: when comprehension is not perfect, is it better to watch spoken Italian with Italian subtitles or to watch spoken Italian with no subtitles at all?
I feel like there are pros and cons (and it probably depends on a learner's level), and I am curious to hear from others who have thought about this.
I have learned mostly from books thus far, and I'm now at a point where I can read Italian pretty well, but I can't speak at all (working on that with iTalki). When I watch videos with (Italian) subtitles, I can catch a lot (let's say 85%). When I watch without subtitles, I catch much less (let's say 50%; more if it's a slow-going documentary but less if it's something hip and fast and slangy). Is one or the other more efficient for learning? Should I mix it up?
