Tackling a low-resource language (Sinhala) for learners/travelers — Technical & pedagogical advice needed!

Hi everyone,

As a developer, I’ve been looking into learning resources for lesser-resourced or rare languages, specifically Sinhala (TL). I noticed that for European travelers, expats, and second-generation diaspora, finding structured, bite-sized learning tools is quite challenging compared to major languages.

I am currently exploring a lightweight concept focused on:

  • Bite-sized daily exposure (e.g., 5 words a day with native audio)
  • Visual script foundational learning (alphabet/vowel modifiers basics)

For those of you who have tried learning a non-Indo-European or less common script/language: What is the biggest pain point you faced with existing tools, and what keeps you motivated (gamification vs. clean UI)?

Any pedagogical advice or structural insights would be hugely appreciated!
