anyone else feel like learning words purely from context is super overrated? like everyone says just consume content and youll pick up words naturally, but honestly that hasn't been my experience at all
heres what usually happens to me, ill hear a new word in a podcast like 5 times and gloss right over it, then after hearing it 10 times i kind of guess it has something to do with movement but im still confused, then finally i get annoyed, look it up in a dictionary and only then does it actually click
input is great for getting used to natural speech, but for learning brand new words relying on random context alone feels super slow
for me the sweet spot is looking up a word and then immediately watching like 5 to 10 short video clips of different native speakers using that exact word back to back
how do you guys handle new words? do you just wait until you hear a word 50 times randomly or do you use tools to see it in real video clips right away?
